Noah Wyeth, Nathaniel Cooper, Phyllis Wheatly Peters, Benjamin Greer, Arthur Slayden Sr, Mary Katherine Goddard, Polly Cooper – these are the names of just a few of the thousands of Patriot Ancestors who rendered service in the cause of American Independence.
Noah Wyeth was a 33-year-old bricklayer in Cambridge, Massachusetts on 19 April 1775 when he, along with some 11 of his kin, under Captain Samuel Thatcher’s command in Colonel Gardner’s Regiment of Militia, marched on the Alarm and at Lincoln, Massachusetts joined the Battle of Lexington and Concord.
Almost 250 years later, as a direct bloodline descendent of Noah Wyeth, I joined the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR).
For most members of SAR there is something special and thrilling about knowing that one (or more) of your ancestors played in role in establishing the United States of America.

It is very likely that you have a Patriot Ancestor. You have two parents, four grandparents, and so on. If you trace your lineage back eight generations, you could have had 128 people alive at the time of the Revolutionary War (512 if you need to go back 10 generations).
To find out, hold your cursor over “Join” (above) and then on the drop-down menu, click on “How to Join”.
As a member of SAR there are numerous ways you can continue your Patriot Ancestor’s service to the Nation: we mark Revolution War Patriot graves, conduct a variety of school contests, present public programs, and much, much more.
July 4, 2025, marks the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Celebrate with us as a member of SAR.
The SAR Pledge states it best:
“We descendants of the heroes of the American Revolution who, by their sacrifices, established the United States of America, reaffirm our faith in the principles of liberty and our Constitutional Republic, and solemnly pledge ourselves to defend them against every foe.”
