“Jacob Parkerson – The Accidental Ancestor Patriot”

What would you do if you were reading a pension application from an American Revolutionary War Patriot and you discover even though he came from Virginia, and spent many years of the war attached to the Continental Line, he was at a battle which you have lived within two miles of the site since 1974?! AND you find out you are related to him?! Well, you read the pension again… and again… share it with a friend just to make sure you read it right, AND then, you giggle giddily almost the point of joyful tears! Join me for the story of the Patriot who made me a bona fide member of the Sons of the American Revolution!  

BIO

Roy Lightfoot is the Chapter President of the Catawba Valley Chapter and the State Historian of the NCSSAR. He is a graduate of Gaston Community College with an associate’s degree and Appalachian State University with a bachelor’s degree in history and a master’s degree in student Affairs. He is a lifelong student of history, however, by no means an “expert” at anything.  Although not proven by SAR standards, Lightfoot claims twenty-six American Revolution Patriots on his father’s side of his family tree. 

These Monthly Historical presentations are held at the Morganton Community House located at 120 N. King St, Morganton, North Carolina 28655 and are Free to attend.

There is an Optional Dinner, which costs $20 (cash) per person, presented at the door. If you plan to attend, please notify the CAESAR President, Dr. Tom Lesser, via email, no later than the Friday prior to allow for a proper headcount on the day of event for both seating and meals.

Planned Meal is:

Hamburger Steak with Gravy, Sweet Potato Casserole, Mixed Vegetables, and Chocolate Chip Cookies
